Handwashing is the best way to stop germs

Keeping hands clean through improved hand hygiene is one of the most important steps we can take to avoid getting sick and spreading germs to others. We, both teachers and children, wash our hands regularly throughout the day and always before we eat.

Best hand washing procedures

Soap & Water:

1. Moisten hands with water and then apply liquid soap.
2. Rub hands together, away from the flow of water, for 20+ seconds.
3. Rinse hands free of soap under running water.
4. Dry hands with a clean, disposable paper towel. Ensure that there is no re-contamination of the clean hands.
5. Turn off faucet using paper towel.
6. Throw the used paper towel into a hands-free trash can

Hand Sanitizer:

• Can only be used when hands are not visibly soiled.
• Can be used by adults and children 2 years of age and older.
• Should have 60-95% alcohol.
• Manufacturer’s instructions must be followed.
• Very close supervision of children should be provided.

Always wash your hands and your child’s hands before leaving school

Did you know you can decrease your child’s illnesses by as much as 50% by simply washing his or her hands before leaving schools, grocery stores, movie theaters, or other social gatherings? It’s true! So be sure to wash those hands.
