Another reason to turn of your TV
We all know that watching too much TV is bad for children. But did you know exposure to background TV, TVs that are on but not being watched, impedes children’s social skills, language development, impulse control and the ability to concentrate, focus and complete tasks? According to the American Academy of Pediatrics it does and children on average get over 3 hours of it a day. So what can you do?
Limit your children’s background TV exposure
- Turn off your TV when no one is watching
- Don’t use TV as a baby sitter or as background noise
- Talk, play games, read, go outside, listen to music, sing, HomeFun!…
- Wait to watch TV until your children are asleep
- Limit all TV/screen exposure
Jenni and I have spent our entire lives surrounded by children. Even if we’ve done something hundreds oftimes it’s always exciting, fresh and new with fascinated children.|
